Properties of Machining Materials
Our staff at M. C. Machine Co., Inc., is very familiar with the properties of machining materials, and we will discuss them here to help you choose which will meet your needs.
PVC: Polyvinyl Chloride resins are exceptionally resistant to acids, alkalis, and alcohols. They are non-oxidizing, self-extinguishing, and insoluble in most chemicals.
CPVC: Brings the toughness and other properties of PVC to a broader range of products and applications. Because CPVC retains physical properties at temperatures well above the capacities of many thermoplastics and has US-94 V-O capacity in thin sections, its use has been specified for a variety of extruded products. The design flexibility of CVPC and its mechanical stability across a wide temperature range (heat distortion temperature from 184° to 205°F) make it a proven alternative to aluminum extrusions.
Polypropylene: It has greater tensile strength than high-density polyethylene, good impact resistance, and very high compressive strength. This material also offers dimensional stability, surface hardness, and excellent abrasion resistance. Polypropylene has elevated heat resistance and even at high frequencies and exhibits excellent dielectric properties easily machined at relatively high speeds on conventional machine tools.
